Gaston
County parks and recreation facilities encompass more than 350 acres.
The department provides, maintains and operates
parks, tennis courts, and jogging tracks. The department also offers
senior programming and activities, and sponsors a wide variety of
special events.

Robinson Elementary School
Facilities include: Fenced-in and lighted Little League baseball
field, lighted soccer-football field, nature trail, play equipment,
walking-jogging track.

school, Gaston County operates a Little League baseball field and
soccer-football field.

amphitheater, three fishing lakes, six tennis courts, fitness course,

GASTONIA PARKS
Parks operated by the City of Gastonia are open
from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
Many provide tennis courts, outdoor basketball courts, softball and
baseball fields, picnic areas and playgrounds.
Picnic shelters are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at
Bradley, Erwin, Lineberger, Phillips, Rankin Lake and Jeffers parks.
Shelters may be reserved by groups or individuals for a small fee by
contacting the individual park office.
Athletic fields are used by American Legion teams and area high schools
during baseball season. Facilities available for rent.

Mount Holly Parks and Recreation
Department
River Street Park features a ballfield, picnic
shelters, playground equipment and restrooms. Plans to build a pier and a walking trail
are under way.
Tuckasegee Park features a lighted ballfield, playground equipment, a
concession stand and picnic tables.

Crowders Mountain State Park
Climb rugged peaks rising 800 feet above the surrounding countryside and watch
raptors soar in the wind currents. The park's 2.758 acres include 1.625-foot
Crowders Mountain and 1,705-foot Kings Pinnacle. A9-acre lake, canoe rentals
June-Labor Day, over 15 miles of hiking and nature trails, picnic facilities
and primitive park in camp. Free. Fee fro canoes and camping.

Duke Power State Park
Discover Lake Norman, the largest man-made lake in the state. Covers 1,458
acres. Two picnic areas, swimming, canoes, row boats, paddle boats for rent.
Group camping facility-- tents only. Family tent/trailer area, fishing, hiking
trails, boat launch access to Lake Norman. With advanced requests, educational
programs presented by rangers. Free. Fee for camping.

KM National Military Park
On October 7,1780, an attack by frontiersman from the Carolinas, Georgia and
Virginia broke up Britian's southern campaign. American patriots killed,
wounded or captured the entire force of more than 1,100 Tories. The
battlefield ridge is located near the center of the 3,950 acre park with
several monuments. A visitor's center features exhibits and informative films.
There is also a self-guided trail leading to the main features of the
battlefield. Located 15 miles from Gastonia in Blacksburg, SC.

Kings Mountain State Park
This 6,832 acre park features scenic drives and nature and hiking trails.
There are two lakes for swimming, fishing and boating. There is also a bridle
trail and stable. Visitors may camp and picnic year-round. The parks Living
History Farm recreates an upcountry homestead of the 1850's.

North Carolina Zoological Park
The nation's largest and walk-through natural habitat zoo, with more than
1,000 animals and 1,500 plant species. The park is located on NC 159 in
Asheboro.

South Mountains State Park
Offers approximately 14 miles of trout streams and 48 miles of trails
designated for mountain hikes, equestrian and hiking activity. Features the
High Shoals Falls on the Jacob's Fork River, a torrent of water that falls
approximately 80 feet over a cliff of bare rock. Free. Fee for camping.

Iron Gate Gardens
Enjoy this well-established 30-year-old garden as you stroll down \brick
walkways surrounded by ornamental shrubs, perennials and a colorful display of
